About S&B Foods
S&B Foods (エスビー食品株式会社) was founded 1923 by Minejiro Yamazaki in Asakusa, Tokyo. Yamazaki produced Japan's first commercial domestic curry powder — the "Hidori" brand — and the "S&B" mark (combining "Sun" and "Bird") was added to the trademark in 1931. The flagship Red Can Curry Powder launched 1950, the Golden Curry (ゴールデンカレー) roux range followed, and in 1970 S&B pioneered the tube format for wasabi, karashi, and ginger condiments — now a Japanese kitchen staple.
What is a retort curry pouch?
A retort pouch is a sealed, shelf-stable foil pouch whose contents are fully cooked and sterilised inside the pack, so it needs no refrigeration and no cooking — only reheating. In Japan retort curry is an everyday convenience staple, sold alongside the roux blocks used to cook curry from scratch. Where a roux block is an ingredient you build a meal around, a retort pouch is the finished sauce, ready to pour over rice.

Preparation — boiling water: place the unopened pouch in boiling water and boil uncovered for 3–5 minutes. Carefully remove, cut open, and pour over rice.

Preparation — microwave: cut the pouch open and pour the contents into a microwave-safe casserole, cover, cook on High for about 1 minute or until hot, then stand for 30 seconds. (Do not microwave the pouch itself.)
