Sanuki Shokuhin Pre-Boiled Sanuki Udon — five single-serve portions of 180 g, ready-cooked and packed, with no soup base included so you dress them with your own broth or dipping sauce. Sanuki Shokuhin makes them by the 多加水製法 (high-water-content method), which the maker credits for a plump body and a smooth 喉越し — the way a noodle slips down. In its own words: "多加水製法で、ふっくら滑らかな喉越し。5食入って大変お得な讃岐うどんです。" Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
About Sanuki Shokuhin
Sanuki Shokuhin Co., Ltd. (サヌキ食品株式会社) is a Kagawa noodle maker founded in 1967 in what is now Marugame City, where it still manufactures and sells noodles under its うどん県 ("Udon Prefecture") range.
What Sanuki udon is — and what "pre-boiled" means
Sanuki udon is the thick, firm style of wheat noodle from Kagawa Prefecture, the region best known throughout Japan for udon. "Pre-boiled" (ゆで) noodles are boiled during manufacture and packed ready to use, rather than sold dry — a different product from the dried udon sold in a bundle of sticks.
How to use & enjoy
Udon is eaten hot, in a dashi-based broth, or chilled with a cold dipping sauce alongside. Dishes it is standard in:
-
Kitsune udon — udon in a dashi broth, topped with sweet seasoned deep-fried tofu pouches (aburaage).
-
Curry udon — udon served in a curry-flavoured broth.
-
Zaru udon — chilled udon served on a bamboo tray with a cold dipping sauce.
