About Nisshin Seifun Welna
Nisshin Seifun Welna (日清製粉ウェルナ) is the consumer-foods arm of the Nisshin Seifun Group, Japan's largest flour milling company (founded 1900). The Welna brand makes home-cooking staples: Camellia (カメリヤ) bread flour and Violet (バイオレット) cake flour, Ma-Ma (マ・マー) pasta and pasta sauces, Aodo (青の洞窟) premium Italian-style pasta sauces, dried udon and soba, plus okonomiyaki, takoyaki, karaage, tempura, and pancake mixes. Note that "Nisshin" (日清製粉, double-s) is a separate company from "Nissin" (日清食品, single-s) — different families, different histories.
Nisshin's soft panko breadcrumbs are crafted for a coating that delivers crispiness with a distinctly light, smooth bite — different from the coarser, more jagged texture of regular panko. The finer, softer crumb structure adheres evenly and fries up golden without overwhelming the ingredient underneath.
This style of panko is particularly well suited to water-rich ingredients where standard panko can feel too heavy: prawns, shellfish, and vegetables all benefit from the lighter coating. It also excels on tonkatsu and korokke where a refined crust is preferred, and works as a topping for hamburgers and au gratin dishes.
