Daisho Co., Ltd. (株式会社ダイショー) is a Japanese seasoning maker established in December 1966 in Fukuoka — originally as Daisho Foods, set up to make grilled-meat seasoning, and its very first product was a yakiniku sauce called Yakiniku Ichiban. It now works from dual headquarters in Tokyo and Fukuoka, and is known across Japan for yakiniku and steak sauces, seasoned salt-and-pepper, and nabe hot-pot soup bases, under the company motto "creating happiness through deliciousness".
What is yakiniku no tare?
Yakiniku (焼肉) is Japanese-style barbecue, where thin slices of beef, pork and vegetables are grilled a few pieces at a time over a burner set into the table. The tare (たれ) is the sauce that goes with it — and unlike a Western barbecue sauce, which is brushed on during cooking, a yakiniku tare is usually poured into a small bowl so each person dips the meat as it comes off the grill. It is also commonly worked into the meat beforehand as a marinade.
How to use & enjoy
Pour it into individual bowls and let everyone dip the meat and vegetables straight off the grill, or work it into thinly sliced meat before cooking so it seasons through and catches a little colour on the heat. It is a traditional partner for grilled beef and vegetables at the yakiniku table.
