Bull-Dog Sauce Co., Ltd. began in 1902 as the food wholesaler Misawa-ya Shoten (三澤屋商店), started making sauce in 1905, and was formally incorporated in 1926; it is headquartered in Nihonbashi Kabutocho, Tokyo. Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き) is Japan's savoury pancake — a batter of flour, egg and shredded cabbage cooked on a griddle, strongly associated with Osaka and Hiroshima. Okonomiyaki sauce is the dedicated finishing sauce it is painted with: a thick, dark, sweet-savoury sauce in the Worcestershire family, sweeter and considerably heavier-bodied than a thin table sauce so that it sits on the pancake rather than soaking in.
