Bull-Dog Sauce Co., Ltd. began in 1902 as the food wholesaler Misawa-ya Shoten (三澤屋商店), started making sauce in 1905, and was formally incorporated in 1926; it is headquartered in Nihonbashi Kabutocho, Tokyo. Alongside its classic Worcestershire, chunou and tonkatsu sauces, the company makes the Uma Sauce, Premium dressing and Tsukishima monjayaki ranges.
What is tonkatsu sauce?
Tonkatsu sauce is Japan's thick, sweet-and-tangy brown sauce in the Worcestershire family — closer to a British brown sauce than to anything in the ketchup family, and much thicker than Worcestershire itself. It is the standard finishing sauce for crumbed, deep-fried food, drizzled over the top or served alongside as a dip.
