Asahina Matcha Green Tea Powder 20g is finely milled Japanese green tea powder, packed in a small metal tin with a press-on lid — the format that keeps matcha away from the light, air and moisture that dull it. The tin holds 20 g and is labelled 御抹茶 (go-maccha), a generic honorific used across the Japanese matcha trade.
What is matcha?
Matcha (抹茶) is green tea leaf ground to a fine powder. Unlike leaf tea, which is steeped and strained away, matcha is whisked into the water and drunk whole — which is why it tastes fuller and more vegetal than brewed green tea, and why it colours whatever it is mixed into.
How to use & enjoy
Matcha is traditionally whisked with a bamboo whisk into hot — not boiling — water until it froths, and it is just as commonly blended with steamed milk for a matcha latte. Beyond the cup, it is a standard flavouring in Japanese-style baking and desserts: cakes, cookies, brownies, chiffon cake and ice cream, where it lends both its colour and a slightly bitter, grassy note. That bitterness is why matcha pairs so naturally with rich dairy, and why it is so often folded into cream and custard-based sweets.
