Senchasou Organic Genmaicha is a Japanese green tea blended with roasted brown rice, grown without any pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Senchasou's own tasting note is that you can enjoy the refreshing umami of sencha alongside the toastiness of the brown rice, and the maker says it adjusts the firing temperature finely so the quality of the leaf is not lost. Because the tea is grown by letting nature take its course, keeping the volume and quality stable is difficult — Senchasou calls it a precious tea. Senchasou also describes it as low in caffeine, a tea for drinkers of every age. Loose leaf, 60 g.
About Senchasou
Senchasou Co., Ltd. (株式会社千茶荘) is a tea house founded in 1939 in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture — a place where tea culture has been rooted since the Edo period. It blends and packs in its own factory, certified to the international FSSC 22000 food-safety standard.
What is genmaicha
Genmaicha (玄米茶) is Japanese green tea combined with roasted brown rice (genmai). The rice lends a warm, nutty toastiness that softens the tea's grassy edge, giving a mellow, comforting cup.
How to brew — Senchasou's method
Put about 5 g of leaves into a kyusu (teapot), pour in 300 ml of freshly boiled water, leave it about 30 seconds, then pour.
