Amanoya Hime Maru Wasabi (天乃屋の姫丸 わさびあじ) 85g — the wasabi edition of Amanoya's bite-sized fried arare, which the maker sums up as crispy rice crackers with a strong wasabi flavour. About Amanoya
Amanoya (株式会社天乃屋) was established in 1953 as a maker of amanatto — sweet red bean paste — and switched to rice crackers soon after. Its signature product, the large fried Kabuki-age (歌舞伎揚) senbei, was developed in 1960 and still anchors the range. The company's head office is in Musashimurayama, western Tokyo.
What "arare" means here
Arare (あられ) are the small, bite-sized members of Japan's rice-cracker family — fried or baked from glutinous or non-glutinous rice and seasoned after cooking, as against the large flat senbei sold by the sheet. The size is the point: they are eaten by the handful.
