Sanonto (三温糖) is a uniquely Japanese sugar made from refined raw sugar and reheated during processing, which gives it its light brown colour and deeper flavour. Compared to regular white sugar, it has a more rounded sweetness and adds richness and gloss to dishes.
Recognisable by the classic red “Spoon Mark” branding.
