Hayashi rice (ハヤシライス) is a Japanese yōshoku (Western-style) comfort dish — thinly sliced beef and onion simmered in a rich, demi-glace-style tomato sauce and served over steamed rice. It's a close cousin of Japanese curry rice, made the same way from a block roux.

Beyond classic hayashi rice, it's also simmered with Japanese hamburg steak (hambāgu) as a home-style variation.
