Amanoya Hime Maru (天乃屋の姫丸) 98g — bite-sized fried rice crackers (arare) in a sweet soy-sauce glaze, generously dusted with a three-flavour spice blend built on mandarin orange peel and chilli pepper. The pack is marked 中辛 (chūkara), the medium step on Japan's mild–medium–hot scale, so the heat sits behind the citrus and the soy rather than in front of them.
About Amanoya
Amanoya (株式会社天乃屋) was established in 1953 as a maker of amanatto — sweet red bean paste — and switched to rice crackers soon after. Its signature product, the large fried Kabuki-age (歌舞伎揚) senbei, was developed in 1960 and still anchors the range. The company's head office is in Musashimurayama, western Tokyo.
What "arare" means here
Arare (あられ) are the small, bite-sized members of Japan's rice-cracker family — fried or baked from glutinous or non-glutinous rice and seasoned after cooking, as against the large flat senbei sold by the sheet. The size is the point: they are eaten by the handful.
Ingredients
Non-glutinous rice, vegetable oil (palm oil, rice bran oil), modified starch (wheat, cassava, corn), sugar, soy sauce (water, soybeans, wheat, salt, glucose, rice, monosodium glutamate, disodium 5'-ribonucleotide), high fructose corn syrup, spices (mandarin orange peel, chilli pepper), monosodium glutamate, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, laver, salt, seasoning (hydrolysed protein [soybeans]), caramel colour.
Allergens
Contains: wheat, soybean.
