S&B La-Yu with Chili Pepper (辣油) 33ml — the spicier of S&B's two La-Yu bottles. S&B's La-Yu is built from the extract of select red chilli peppers, with sesame oil added, giving "a pungent spiciness, bright red color and the savory flavor of sesame oil". This version adds coarsely ground roasted red chilli peppers on top of that base, which is what makes it, in S&B's words, "spicier than regular La-Yu".
About S&B Foods
S&B Foods (エスビー食品株式会社) was founded 1923 by Minejiro Yamazaki in Asakusa, Tokyo. Yamazaki produced Japan's first commercial domestic curry powder — the "Hidori" brand — and the "S&B" mark (combining "Sun" and "Bird") was added to the trademark in 1931. The flagship Red Can Curry Powder launched 1950, the Golden Curry (ゴールデンカレー) roux range followed, and in 1970 S&B pioneered the tube format for wasabi, karashi, and ginger condiments — now a Japanese kitchen staple.
What is la-yu?
La-yu (辣油, also written ラー油 and read rāyu) is the Japanese take on Chinese chilli oil — chilli infused into oil, used as a condiment rather than a cooking fat. It belongs to chūka, the Japanese-Chinese cooking tradition that also gave Japan ramen and gyoza, and it is the standard source of heat at that table.
How to use & enjoy
La-yu is used as a dipping sauce for gyoza — the use it was originally introduced for in Japan.

S&B suggests using it "with the sauce of dim-sum, as a relish for soup noodles, a seasoning for fried meat & vegetables, Chinese dressing, topping for sushi rolls or dipping sauce with mayonnaise."
