Kingodo Atsuyaki Senbei Shoyu Rice Crackers 9pcs is a thick-baked (atsuyaki) soy sauce senbei made the way Kingodo describes it: the rice is coarsely ground so its flavour carries through, and the crackers are baked over a direct flame until fragrant. The seasoning is the maker's own umami-dare — a rich, flavourful soy sauce with kombu (kelp) extract blended into it. Nine crackers to a bag.
About Kingodo
Kingodo Seika (株式会社金吾堂製菓) is a Tokyo rice-cracker maker founded in August 1950 and incorporated in 1956, working from Yayoicho in Nakano-ku. Rice crackers are the whole of its business — 米菓製造 (beika seizo, rice-confectionery manufacturing) is the company's own stated line of work.
What is atsuyaki senbei?
Senbei (せんべい) are the large, flat, savoury rice crackers of Japan, pressed and baked from non-glutinous uruchi rice — distinct from arare, the small bite-sized crackers made from glutinous rice. Atsuyaki (厚焼) means thick-baked — a heavier, denser cracker than the standard thin senbei.
