About Ajinomoto
Ajinomoto (味の素株式会社) is one of Japan's foundational seasoning companies, founded 1909 by Saburosuke Suzuki II (the second-generation Suzuki Saburosuke) after Kikunae Ikeda's discovery of umami (the fifth taste) in 1908. The original Aji-no-moto (味の素, "essence of taste") MSG seasoning launched May 1909 — the world's first commercial umami seasoning. The portfolio now includes Hondashi (ほんだし) bonito dashi granules, Cook Do (Cook Do®) Chinese stir-fry sauces, Hi-Me (ハイミー) umami seasoning, and the Knorr-licensed cup-soup range.

Why Hondashi

Popular uses
A versatile dashi base for miso soup, clear soups (suimono), dashimaki tamago, nikujaga, oden, takikomi gohan, chawanmushi, and udon/soba broth.
Ingredients
Salt (produced in Japan), sugars (sugar, lactose), flavour ingredients (bonito powder, bonito extract), yeast extract, yeast-extract fermented seasoning / seasoning (amino acids etc.).
Allergens
Contains: milk and fish (bonito). Milk comes from the lactose in the seasoning; bonito (katsuobushi) is a fish. On Ajinomoto's Japanese label milk is the declared allergen — fish is not one of Japan's mandatory allergens — but this product is made from bonito, so we flag fish for anyone with a fish allergy.
