About S&B Foods
S&B Foods (エスビー食品株式会社) traces its history to 1923, when founder Minejiro Yamazaki achieved Japan's first successful domestic production of curry powder in Shichiken-cho, Asakusa, Tokyo. What la-yu is
La-yu (辣油, also written ラー油 and romanised rayu) is Japan's chilli oil: sesame oil infused with chilli, used as a finishing condiment rather than a cooking oil. It is closely associated with Japanese-style Chinese cooking (chuka), where it is added at the table or just before serving.
How to use & enjoy
La-yu is added at the end, not cooked with — a few drops at the table are the point. It is the traditional dipping sauce for gyoza and other dim sum, and it is drizzled over ramen and other noodle dishes as a spicy finishing oil. It also works stirred into Chinese-style dressings and over vegetables.
